Half a thousand professionals from all over the Iberian Peninsula will gather at the III Spanish-Portuguese Extensive Livestock Congress which, under the motto ‘Guaranteed Sustainability’, will be held at the Cáceres Congress Palace, on December 1 and 2 2022. This international Congress is organized by Agri-Food Cooperatives of Spain, with the participation of the territorial unions of Andalusia, Castilla y León and Extremadura, the Andalusian Federation of Animal Health Defense Groups, ACOS-Associaçâo de Agricultores do Sul and the Uniâo two Alentejo Health Defense Groups, with the support of various sponsoring and collaborating entities.
The III Spanish-Portuguese Congress of Extensive Livestock Farming, for which registration is now open, “is proposed with the aim of addressing the technical-scientific and agricultural policy aspects associated with extensive livestock farming and highlighting its environmental and territorial benefits. , economic and social”, as highlighted by the president of Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias Extremadura, Ángel Pacheco, during the presentation of this international congress.
For his part, the president of Acos, Rui Garrido, explained that the III Spanish-Portuguese Extensive Livestock Congress will be a meeting point for hundreds of Spanish and Portuguese professionals to, over two days, “exchange experiences in order to improve the knowledge of both producers and technicians to optimize resources in production and sanitation.
In addition, during the congress the marketing of products, the market situation and consumer trends will be analyzed, in addition to health challenges, the integration of the production sector and the application of new technologies will be other issues discussed, as and as Agustín González, from the Andalusian Federation of Animal Health Defense Groups, highlighted.
This meeting will feature the experience of experts from Spain and Portugal, both livestock farmers, cooperatives and non-cooperative companies, researchers, distribution representatives and representatives of the European Union, the Spanish and Portuguese national administration and the regional governments of the areas of influence.
Thus, the III Hispano-Portuguese Extensive Livestock Congress will be inaugurated by the president of the Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara; the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain, Luis Planas Puchades, and the Minister of Agriculture of Portugal, Maria do Céu Antunes, both pending confirmation; and representatives of the event organization.
Technical-scientific program
The technical-scientific program of the III Spanish-Portuguese Extensive Livestock Congress will open on December 1 with an inaugural presentation on “European Strategies for extensive livestock farming”, by the European Commission, which will give way to the first round table which will address extensive animal production, in which aspects such as digitalization and technological advances in extensive livestock farming and sustainable management models in La Dehesa/Montado will be analyzed. Subsequently, a round table will be held on animal and plant health, with the official opening scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
The afternoon session of this first day will continue with a round table that will discuss the ecosystem as a generator of value based on aspects such as fighting livestock, rural tourism, hunting and conservation resources and the application in avant-garde cuisine. After this, a round table will take place on the promotion and marketing of products from the pasture.
The program will continue on December 2, starting at 9:30 a.m., with presentations and round tables on social, economic and environmental sustainability and Community Agrarian Policy in extensive livestock farming.
