The 2019 Goya Awards gala, scheduled for next February, will move to Seville. The official confirmation will be this Tuesday, July 10, in a press conference in which the president of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, Mariano Barroso and the first vice president, Rafael Portela, will participate, as well as the mayor of the capital of Seville. , Juan Espadas.
The Academy explained in the event’s announcement that this presentation “will be about the 33rd edition of the Goya Awards, which will be held next February.” In this way, the Goya They leave Madrid againafter the edition that took place in Barcelona in 2000.
Last June, during the announcement of Andreu Buenafuente and Silvia Abril as presenters of the next gala, Barroso already announced that the next edition could be held in another city. Thus, in addition to the usual Madrid, he explained that there were two other “quite powerful” options that he could not yet advance.
New gala concept
Barroso already pointed out in a recent interview with Europa Press that the academy was studying a new “concept of the gala.” The objective, as he indicated, is to “reclaim” Spanish cinema in a gala that, as he lamented, everyone seems to know how to organize it, “as happens with football or politics.”
Thus, he recalled that during the last year the gala was opened to competition and the project that “on paper seemed more solid” was chosen, a result with which They are not “proud”so they decided to return to the previous formula.
Regarding possible changes, Barroso also announced that there is talk of group the delivery of certain prizes in order to make it “more agile”, although it rules out eliminating any awards. “The gala has to be many things at the same time and that is one of its complexities,” he concluded.
Buenafuente and Silvia Abril
On this occasion, the director of the 2019 gala will be Andreu Buenafuente, who together with Silvia Abril will act as presenter. Buenafuente already has experience as a presenter at the Goya Awards, having presented the 2010 and 2011 editions. The fact of having the presenter of ‘Late Motiv’ (Movistar+) again at the awards may have been caused by the good hearing that he managed to reap in both galas, being the most viewed since 2002
Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 10, Mariano Barroso, president of the Academy, will appear at a press conference, accompanied by Rafael Portela, the first vice president of the institution, and Juan Espadas, the mayor of Seville. In this way, everything indicates that Seville will be in charge of receiving the film stars to receive the most anticipated awards in our country. Furthermore, thus, one of the capital’s objectives is met, which sought to achieve notoriety by promoting Seville and Andalusia as the capital of European cinema and promoting local investments, as well as attracting new filming. Little else is known about the next edition of the Goya. For now, the academy has already published the rules to which all those films that wish to participate in the awards must join, along with the names of the presenters who will serve as hosts.
The official announcement will be made tomorrow at a press conference in the Andalusian capital by the president of the Film Academy, Mariano Barroso, and the first vice president, Rafael Portela, accompanied by the mayor of Seville Juan Espadas.
