The Badajoz town of Valverde de Leganés celebrates from May 20 to 22 the eleventh edition of Vive la Trashumancia and the third Artisan Cheese Fair, on the occasion of which a ‘show cooking’, children’s workshops, exhibitions, cheese tastings will take place. , beers, wines and oils or artisan cheese tasting tapas with popular prices, with more than 13 different cheese shops.
This was presented this Tuesday, the 17th, by the deputy delegate of the Rural Development and Sustainability Area of the Badajoz Provincial Council, Lorenzo Molina; the first deputy mayor of Valverde de Leganés, Diana González Martínez, and the agent for Employment and Local Development (AEDL) of the municipality, Eugenio Valentín Gallardo.
Lorenzo Molina has highlighted that this fair is important to bring together farmers and ranchers, as well as to acquire new knowledge of this sector of the professionalization of the countryside, making it more sustainable and attracting the youngest to what a new project of life.
The Rural Development and Sustainability Area will participate in this fair with a promotional stand and with activities to energize the fair, such as a free photo booth located in the multi-sector market area, and the popular roast lamb tasting that Corderex will carry out in the canteen area. Both activities will take place on Saturday, May 21, the first starting at 1:00 p.m. and the second starting at 3:00 p.m.
Likewise, it will participate in the auction of Merino sheep on Sunday, May 22 at 1:30 p.m. with two lots of eight females and one lot of nine males. Three rams will also be auctioned, according to the Badajoz council in a press release.
Thus, a starting price of 960 euros is established for the batch of eight females (120 euros per animal) and 1,080 for the batch of nine males (120 euros per animal). The rams will be auctioned individually with the starting price being 270 euros per animal.
Of the objectives
For her part, Diana González explained that this fair pursues two objectives, the first, “to highlight the trade of transhumance”, since the Cañada Real Soriano Occidental, one of the main livestock routes, ends in this municipality. that connects the lands of Valverde with the city of Soria through 700 kilometers diagonally.
While the second involves promoting both the natural heritage of the municipality and its surroundings, as well as the historical, monumental and gastronomic heritage, with cheese being one of its “star” products this weekend.
Finally, Eugenio Valentín wanted to emphasize the value of this new edition, in relation to which he has indicated that the event will begin on Friday the 20th with an exhibition, tastings and awards ceremony, ending the day in the Plaza de la Constitución with Fani Ortíz’s performance in ‘El alma de la copla’.
For the 21st and 22nd, there will be a set of common activities, such as the multi-sector market, show cooking, children’s workshops, exhibitions, cheese, beer, wine and oil tastings and artisan cheese tasting tapas.
